Description

The Butchers Arms is an inn located in Sheepscombe, primarily built in the 19th century, with possible earlier elements from the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building is long and narrow, likely consisting of two distinct periods. The left half has a hipped-roofed glazed porch and a deep wing at the back.

It stands two storeys high with attics. On the ground floor, there is a broad, square projecting porch with a combination of 2:5:5:2-light casements flanking a plank door. This is followed by a blocked doorway, a 2-light flush stone-mullioned casement, another plank door, and a 2-light recessed chamfered window with a hood-mould. The first floor features two 3-light stone mullioned casements, a 2-light stone mullioned casement set at a lower level, and a 2-light steel casement. At both the far left and far right, there are 2-light gabled dormers. The left gable has a stack, and there are two ridge stacks located at the centre and right, with coped gables.

The back wing is two storeys high and has two windows with 2-light casements that include leading. The right return of the main block has a small 2-light casement at the first floor with a rendered surround and a projecting keystone. Most windows throughout the building feature leading.
