Description
The Old Forge is a detached cottage located on the north side of Bradford Road in Atworth. It dates from the late 17th century and 18th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a double Roman tiled roof with gable end stone stacks and coped verges. The cottage is two stories high and has three windows.
The front of the cottage includes a half-glazed door and a single casement window to the left, while to the right there is a 2-light ovolo-mullioned casement window with a hoodmould and a 3-light ovolo-mullioned casement window. On the first floor, there is a gabled dormer with a 2-light mullioned casement window to the right, and to the left, there is a 2-light ovolo and a single casement window.
The right side of the building features a half-glazed door and a 4-panelled door set in a cyma-moulded surround, along with a casement window on the first floor. The rear of the cottage has 20th-century casements and a short wing with a 2-light recessed cyma-mullioned casement window on the first floor. Inside, the cottage retains chamfered beams with stepped or runout stops.
