Description
The barn located to the north of Farleys End Farmhouse is a large structure dating from the 15th century, and possibly even earlier. It features a timber-framed construction with weatherboarding and a corrugated-iron roof. The barn has six bays and an off-centre position for the barn door. Its exterior is roughly weatherboarded, with an off-centre stable door at the east end and a loft door above it. The roof is raised at the door position on the sides, and while there are remaining plank barn doors on the north side, the doors on the south side are missing. A brick plinth supports the structure.
Internally, the barn contains seven very large pairs of crucks, each featuring upper and lower cambered collars and tenon-jointed cruck spurs attached to the wall posts. There is small framing at the west end, while the rafters, purlins, and windbracing were all added in the 20th century. The internal span measures 7.2 meters across the feet of the crucks. This barn is part of a group of three contemporary cruck-framed buildings, which also includes the farmhouse and another outbuilding.
