Description

This is a group of 40 headstones located in the churchyard south of the nave of the Church of St. John, situated between the church and the southern boundary. The headstones date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with a few from the early 19th century. They are made of limestone and sandstone and are mostly arranged in rows. The collection includes a large number of finely carved headstones featuring a wide variety of designs, with many of the 17th-century examples being well preserved. There is also a group of contemporary chest and pedestal tombs that are listed separately.
