Description

Velt House Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse that dates from the early 17th century, with a late 18th-century addition. The building is timber-framed and faced in roughcast, although some parts have been rebuilt or refaced in brick. It features a limestone ashlar chimney and brick chimneys, topped with a clay plain tile roof. The farmhouse has a two-room, two-storey layout, with a two-storey L-plan addition that includes an attic.

On the west side, there is a left projecting jettied gable end with side walls made of brick. Two posts have been inserted below the jetty. The ground floor has two framed-up casements, while there is a single casement above. To the right, there is a projecting gable with a chimney stack, and a cambered-headed casement is located on the north side of the wing.

The north side shows the timber-framed construction of the 17th-century house, which is jettied at each end. There is an attached single-storey lean-to that is part-glazed and has a pantile roof. Behind this lean-to, there are two plank doors with two framed-up casements in between. A ridge-mounted chimney with a moulded cap and skirt is also present.

On the east side, there is a right projecting jettied gabled end with a single-window arrangement. The ground floor has an altered casement, and above it is a leaded casement. To the left is a brick wing with scattered cambered-headed casements and a 20th-century gabled roof dormer.

The south side features a blank gable end to the right with a ridge-mounted brick chimney, and there is altered single-window fenestration in the wing that runs to the left. The north wing retains timber-framed construction internally, and some 17th-century plank doors are still present. The attached outbuildings to the south are not considered to be of special interest.
