Description

Old Farmhouse at Madams End Farm is a large detached farmhouse that dates from the early 17th century, with additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a partly timber-framed structure that is entirely roughcast, with brick chimneys and a thatched roof. It is a single-storey building with an attic and has a long range, along with two back wings, both also single-storey with attics.

The front of the farmhouse has scattered windows, including some leaded casements. There is a large central gable that has a timber casement and a 19th-century architrave, with thatched dormers on both the left and right sides; the right dormer features a leaded casement. There are three doorways, one of which has a brick cambered arch and a plank door. The roof has two ridge-mounted chimneys, indicating the ends of the original house, and there is scalloped ridge decoration on the thatch.

On the south gable end, there is scattered fenestration consisting of three small-paned metal casements. The north gable end features a leaded attic casement, and the back wing extends to the left with a thatched dormer. At the rear, each wing has a gabled end; the south wing has a projecting gable end chimney stack and a large plank door on its south side. The gradual growth of this house has resulted in a very picturesque effect.
