Description

SO 71 SE HARDWICKE HAYWICKS LANE (south side) 4/79 Outbuilding to south west of Hardwicke Farmhouse

GV II

Formerly detached house; now outbuilding. Late C16. Timber framed; much surviving wattle and daub; roughcast; plain tile roof. Single-storey with attic; lean-to at south east end. North east: small framing with 2 doorways, one low to left, other to right, both with plank doors. North west end: gabled with small framing; jowled corner posts; 4-light unglazed timber window with square mullions; shuttered loft hole above. South east end: attached timber framed lean-to with brick panels to left; 2 attic openings in gable, one central with plain architrave, another with leaded casement to right. Back: small framing; two 2-light attic openings with shutters. Interior of 4 post and truss bays; inserted C19 staircase to loft at north west end. Possibly a later addition to the group forming the medieval manor house of Rudge. Forms part of group around yard. (C.R. Elrington, 'Hardwick" in V.C.H. Glos. x, 1972, pp. 178-188.)
