Description

The bridge keeper's house, located to the northwest of Sellars Bridge, was built around 1830 and features a 20th-century addition. It was designed by Robert Mylne, who was the engineer for the Gloucester and Berkeley Ship Canal. The house is constructed of stucco and has a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a Greek Revival style. It is a single-storey building with a portico that faces the canal. The gable ends of the original house have a low pitch and are topped with a pediment over a continuous entablature.

The front of the house features an off-centre portico to the right, supported by fluted Greek Doric columns on circular bases. The portico has a central doorway that is glazed with a fanlight above it, and to the left of the doorway, there are three 16-pane sash windows. The southwest side has a blank end with a stuccoed chimney mounted on the ridge. The northeast side has an altered 20th-century casement window with a smaller casement to the left. The chimney is aligned with the front portico. The interior has not been inspected, and the 20th-century addition at the rear is not considered of special interest. This house is one of two standard designs for bridge keeper's houses on the canal, attributed to Mylne but built after his death.
