Description

Manor Farmhouse is a large detached farmhouse built in the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick, featuring a lias cellar, brick chimneys, and a plain tile roof. The building has a single range with a staircase wing at the rear, and it is two stories high with a cellar and attic, along with a single-storey addition with an attic at the back.

The south front originally had a six-window elevation with sash windows and a six-panel central door. The upper floor now has 18th-century sashes without glazing bars, while two ground floor windows have been blocked. The outer windows were enlarged in the 19th century to accommodate tripartite plate glass sashes, all featuring brick flat arches. There is a plain band at the upper floor level and a 19th-century gabled porch with a Tudor-arched opening made of gauged brick. The roof has three hipped dormers with 20th-century casements and two brick chimneys mounted on the ridge.

The west end has a parapet gable with moulded brick coping, lias stonework in the cellar, and a segmental arched plank door. There are off-centre sashes on the ground and upper floors, along with a 20th-century attic casement. The east end mirrors the west with a parapet gable and features tripartite sashes on both the ground and upper floors, plus a 20th-century attic casement. At the back, there is a central gabled stair wing with a small-paned attic-level casement, a single-storey outshut, and a large single-storey addition with a hipped roof to the right of the stair wing, which also has 20th-century casements.

The farmhouse likely stands on the site of a medieval manor house and is noted for being an unusually large and early brick-built structure in the area. It dominates the northern view along the road south of the central village junction.
