Description
Oakey Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 15th century, with expansions to the west and south in the 16th century and partial remodelling in 1794. The original core is timber-framed and features two large pairs of true crucks, which are faced in brick and topped with triple Roman tiles. The main connecting range is constructed of random coursed rubble stone on the east side, while the south and west sides are brick-faced, all under a slate roof with brick end and ridge stacks. The south wing is also brick-built and includes a very large stepped ashlar external stack with a moulded cornice. The building has a U-shape, is two storeys high with an attic in the long central range, and has scattered fenestration, mostly consisting of 19th and 20th century casements.
There is a nearly central gabled dormer featuring two small 4-pane casements. To the right, there is a chamfered stone doorway with a 20th-century vertical battened door and a flat stone hood supported by consoles. The west side has mainly three-light wood casements, likely from 1794, and a plain unfluted columned porch. The door here consists of four beaded panels and one wide glazed panel at the top. Inside, the main range has a large timber bressumer fireplace in the north section, which includes a partial 20th-century insertion, and chamfered and stopped compartmented ceilings. There is a wreathed and ramped turned baluster stair in the hall, and the large external stack features a chamfered stone fireplace from the 16th century on the ground floor.
