Description
Nos 36 and 37 are a pair of small houses dating from the late 16th century and 17th century. They are primarily timber-framed, with No 36 largely refaced in brick. The houses feature brick chimneys and a replacement concrete tile roof, while the back wing of No 36 has a clay plain tile roof.
No 36 has a two-room plan and is single-storey with an attic, along with a two-storey back wing. No 37 is a one-room, two-storey house with a single-storey addition at the south end. The front of No 36, on the left, displays scattered fenestration due to the brick refacing, a cambered arched doorway with a plank door, and two casements to the left. The right side retains part of the timber framing with a small casement and features two tall framed gabled roof dormers.
No 37, on the right, is small-framed on a lias plinth with scattered timber casements and has a large brick ridge chimney stack at the junction with No 36. The north gable end of No 36 shows some timber framing and possible remains of an upper cruck. The partly timber-framed back of No 36 includes a large back wing in small framing with straight bracing on a lias plinth, which has been rebuilt in brick on the south side with single-window fenestration. The back of No 37 also has small framing, while the south gable end is rendered with 20th-century casements. The single-storey addition to the south is not of special interest.
