Description

The Pitt Monument is a short chest tomb located in the churchyard about 7 meters south of the eastern bay of the nave of the Church of St. Peter. It commemorates Jonathan Pitt, who died in 1800. The monument is made of stone and features a flat lid with slightly indented corners on the long sides and a moulded edge. The south side has a raised rectangular panel with paterae in scalloped corners, while the north side displays a raised circle with paterae in the corners. The ends of the tomb are adorned with pilasters that have alternate fluting and paterae at the top, with a sunk panel on the stem at the west end and a raised panel at the east end. It also has a moulded plinth and displays good lettering.
