Description
The Purton Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 4 meters southeast of the southeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter. It commemorates Thomas Purton, who died in 1769. The tomb features a flat lid with a simple chamfer. The north side is adorned with rococo carving, including a winged cherub's head in the center and decorative carvings on the end panels, framed by hanging leaves and flowers. The south side is badly weathered and displays drapery at the ends. The corners are quarter-square gadrooned balusters, with carving on the stem, and the ends feature an hourglass within a serpent of eternity, surrounded by palm fronds, all set on a stand.
