Description
17 and 19 High Street are two small houses that form part of a terrace, dating from the early to mid-19th century. They feature incised render and a double Roman tile roof with a parapet wall, along with three brick stacks, including a large central square stack. The buildings are a single range with one rear extension and stand two storeys tall, with an attic skylight.
Each house has two windows with 16-pane sash frames. The ground floor of No 17 includes a central 16-pane sash window and flanking 19th-century shop fronts. No 17 has a moulded cornice supported by consoles and a recessed half-glazed door to the left, along with a 4-light shop window featuring moulded pilasters that are cut off before the base. No 19 has a plain unmoulded cornice on very elaborate large consoles, a recessed half-glazed door to the left, and a 3-light plate glass shop window with round-arched lights.
These houses are included primarily for their group value with Nos 34 and 36 High Street, which are located opposite.
