Description
Claverton Buildings consists of two end terrace houses, now functioning as shops, built in the early 19th century with alterations from the late 19th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and topped with a double Roman tile roof. The buildings rise three storeys with a basement, which is fully revealed at the rear, making them four storeys tall. Each house features one window: No. 24 has sixteen-pane sash windows, while No. 25 has plain windows, both situated above full-width shopfronts.
No. 24 showcases a late 19th-century front with pilasters, a deep fascia, and a cornice, along with a panelled house door to the left of a shallow transom light and an original glazed door in the display front. No. 25 has a later shopfront and also features a panelled house door to the left. Above the first floor of No. 24, there is a lintel with a frieze beneath a cornice and a blocking course, with a parapet running the full width of both properties. Each house has deep chimney stacks on the right side.
At the rear, No. 24 has three twelve-pane sashes and two plain sashes, along with a small two-storey lean-to covered with double Roman tiles. No. 25 features plain sashes and a long added wing. Both houses have a cavetto cornice above the first floor and a similar design with a blocking course and parapet at the second floor. The interiors have not been inspected. Originally, this pair was likely part of a terrace of six houses, which were two storeys high, but later modifications have disrupted their original unity.
