Description

This is a house and shop dating from the early to mid-18th century, significantly rebuilt in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a triple Roman tile roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a corner that is canted. The front, facing Widcombe Parade, has three storeys and two windows. The ground floor features a six/six sash window on the left and a six-panel door with glazed upper panels on the right, topped by a flat hood supported by brackets. A continuous band runs above the ground floor. The first floor has six/six sash windows, and the second floor has three/three sash windows. An ashlar chimney stack with weatherings and pots is also visible. The rear elevation is not documented. The interior has not been inspected. This building represents the western end of Ralph Allen Cottages and serves as a transitional element linking the mid-Georgian artisanal area of Widcombe with the later Widcombe Parade. It is included in the listing for group value, completing the Widcombe Parade terrace.
