Description

Three early 19th century houses are situated in a row on Church Street, Widcombe. The properties have undergone alterations in the 20th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar, topped with slate roofs. The plan is a shallow single depth, and number 7 is set at a slight angle to the other two houses, following the line of the street.

The houses are three storeys high, each featuring a single window per floor. The windows are primarily sash windows with twelve panes above paired twelve-pane glazing; however, number 5 has a four-pane window. The windows have flush mullions, and the small twelve-pane windows have thick bars. Each property includes a panelled door beneath stone bracketed slab hoods. Cast iron footscrapers are present, two of which are undamaged. A platband sits above the first floor, and the rear elevation is also in limestone ashlar. The rear features plastic windows and a late 20th century lean-to extension to number 6, with twelve-pane above replacement paired four-pane windows. Number 7 has a similar extension with a large flat roof. An ovolo moulded string course runs above the middle floor, interrupted by rainwater drops. The interiors have not been inspected. These were likely modest artisan cottages, probably serving Widcombe Manor.
