Description
Gwithian is a pair of mid-19th century houses located on the west side of Woodmancote. They are constructed of coursed rubble limestone, rendered at the rear, with brick chimneys. No. 72 features a stone slate roof, while No. 70 has a replacement tile roof. The houses are two stories tall and have a gabled rear wing that spans the full length of each house.
The front facade has a central projection and a window arrangement of 1:2:1. The ground floor casements have low pointed ashlar lintels, while the doorways and upper floor casements are topped with plain flat ashlar lintels, each under half-gabled dormers. All front windows have leaded metal casements from the 19th century, with No. 70 featuring a 20th-century studded door and No. 72 having a six-panel door from the 19th century. There are three chimneys mounted on the ridges.
At the rear, there are two adjoining gabled wings, each with a chimney stack on either side and one at the center between the gables. Each gable has two 19th-century sash windows. Various attached lean-tos are present but are not of special interest. This building forms part of a group with Woodmancote Farmhouse and its farm buildings, which adds to its group value.
