Description
This is a former large detached house, now divided into two attached houses. It largely dates from the late 17th century, with significant alterations in the 18th and early 19th centuries, followed by 20th-century restoration and adjustments. The exterior is random rubble limestone with recent ribbon pointing, brick chimneys, and a stone slate roof. The building consists of two main blocks, both two storeys with attics, linked together to form an L-shaped plan. A parallel range extends to the rear, also two storeys with an attic.
The front of the main range on the left has a five-window front with mostly 12-pane sashes, featuring a mix of timber and concrete lintels. There are two 12-pane sash windows in full gables in the attic. A projecting, pedimented porch shelters a four-panel door, above which is a 9-pane sash window. The south side of the range to the right is punctuated by two-window sash fenestration, and a 9-pane sash window sits in the full attic gable. The gable end facing the road has two upper-floor sash windows and a 12-pane sash in the attic. On the north side, the fenestration is more scattered, with two upper-floor 12-pane sashes, each set beneath a full blank attic gable. Ground-floor casements are also present, along with a gabled porch at the entrance. A large lean-to addition is attached to the gable end. The south end features two gables with chimneys on the ridge and two upper-floor sashes, featuring marginal lights, in the left gable. The rear of the building includes an upper-floor sash with marginal lights and two hipped roof dormers with small-paned casements. The remainder of the rear elevation has been heavily altered.
The interior has not been inspected. The building was formerly the manor house associated with the manor of Woodmancote.
