Description
Reine Barnes is a large detached house, now used as offices, that dates back to 1777, with a significant addition made around 1830 for William Bucanan. The original 18th-century part of the building is roughcast, while the 19th-century addition is finished in stucco, topped with a plain tile roof. The structure is two stories high with an attic and features a large rectangular two-story addition.
The front of the building has a central section that projects forward, characteristic of the 19th-century design, and the fenestration is arranged in a 1:1:1 pattern. All windows are 12-pane sashes, except for a very small sash window inserted to the left of the center on the upper floor. A projecting Ionic flat-roofed porch leads to the central doorway, which has a pulvinated frieze and a dentil cornice, along with a six-panel door. Below the simple blocking course, there is a hollow moulded parapet cornice.
On the 18th-century part of the house, there are two upper floor casement windows with lozenge panes and two doorways, one of which is located at the center and features the date 1777 in roughcast above it, with 20th-century glazed doors. The roof is sprocketed with moulded eaves and includes two flat-roofed dormers.
On the north side, there is a gable to the right with a single-storey canted bay window that has glazed doors, and to the left, there is a single upper floor 16-pane sash window. The rear of the building has a hipped roof on the main block and features three-window sash fenestration, with 20-pane windows on the ground floor and 16-pane windows on the upper floor, along with a hollow moulded parapet cornice. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have panelled shutters on the principal sashes.
