Description

Nos 2 and 3 Market Place is a house with ground floor shops, including 2A High Street, dated 1666, featuring the initials RTE on a projecting square bay facing High Street. The building has incised render, a double Roman tile roof, and a brick stack. It is L-shaped with a gable to the east, standing two storeys tall with attic skylights. The facade to Market Place includes two canted bays with five 6-pane lights on the first floor and two large shop fronts, likely from the 19th century, on the ground floor, both featuring 20th-century glazed doors in panelled recesses. The shop front on the right has a moulded wood modillion cornice that extends across. The right return displays a timber tie beam on the surface of the wall, along with two other small timbers at ground floor level. The left return to High Street features a gable with a projecting square bay on the first floor, supported by wood columns, and bears the date and initials stamped into the roughcast apron. Within the same structure on the left is a small shop with two 4-pane sashes on the first floor, a 20th-century shop window, and door below. On the corner, there is a 19th-century shop front with curved glass under a 20th-century coved canopy.
