Description

15 Finkle Street is a house and shop dating from the late 18th century, with early and late 19th-century alterations. The building features painted stone on a painted plinth facing Finkle Street, and painted render on the Market Place side. It has a timber boxed eaves cornice and a hipped pantile roof with brick end stacks.

The Finkle Street front has three storeys and three windows. There is a double shopfront between fluted pilaster strips, with a continuous fascia and a fluted band beneath a moulded cornice. A recessed half-glazed and panelled door is located beneath a blocked overlight, flanked by three-light canted-bay shop windows with brick risers. The right window retains early 19th-century small-pane glazing, while the left window has a replacement 16-pane central sash between 8-pane flanking sashes. On the first and second floors, the windows to the left are 12-pane sashes, those to the right are blind 16-pane sashes, and all have painted stone sills and painted wedge lintels.

The Market Place front also has three storeys and three windows. It features a late 19th-century double shopfront with pilasters and an entablature. There is a glazed door with a blocked overlight, situated between square-bay plate glass windows with colonnette glazing bars, above panelled risers. The first and second floors have 4-pane sash windows.
