Description

This is a late 18th-century house forming part of a terrace on Canonbury Street in Berkeley. It was originally known as No 1, Canonbury Street, later as The Old Post Office, Market Place, and is now located at 1, Canonbury Street. The exterior is characterised by incised render on a plinth, a pantile roof with overhanging and coved eaves, and brick end stacks that are partially external to the right. The house is single-range and two storeys high, featuring three windows with twelve-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are similar in style, with a central doorcase featuring a large, flat-panelled wooden hood supported by scrolled brackets. The doorcase also has a decorative rectangular fanlight, incorporating two lozenges flanking an oval, and a six-panel door with fielded panels. It is noted that the left-hand return is not a party wall.
