Description
Number 32 on Culver Street is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building has a rendered exterior over a timber frame, with mid-19th century brick at the rear. It features a brick stack on the left end and an internal stack in the rear outshut. The original layout is a two-unit plan, complemented by a mid-19th century service outshut at the back.
The house is one storey with an attic and has a two-window range. The entrance is a mid-19th century six-panelled door set beneath a gabled hood in the centre. To the right of the door is a mid-20th century two-light window, while to the left is a mid-19th century three-light transomed window with a central opening casement. There is a gabled dormer on the left with a late 19th or early 20th century two-light casement, and a canted dormer on the right with a mid-19th century one-light casement. A plank door is located at the rear.
Inside, the house retains 17th century timber framing on the exterior walls and a partition that flanks the central passage. It features cased beams and a two-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. The mid-19th century scullery includes a copper, plank doors, and fireplaces.
