Description

Number 2 on Meeting Lane is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with remodels from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof with gabled ends, along with gable end and axial stacks that have later brick shafts.

The house has a two-room plan with end stacks, a central entrance lobby, and a staircase at the back. There is a later one-room plan extension from the 18th century on the left (west) end, which includes an outshut at the rear.

The exterior is one storey with an attic and has a three-window south front, with the left end being the extension. The first floor features three large 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars, each topped with small gables that have shaped bargeboards and pendants. On the ground floor, the right side has two later 19th-century canted bay windows with sashes, along with a central doorway that has a glazed door, panelled reveals, and a 20th-century glazed porch. The left side has a glazed door with a 20th-century porch and a 20th-century window. At the rear, there is a 20th-century outshut on the left.

Inside, there is joinery from the 18th and 19th centuries. The center and right-hand rooms have plastered axial beams, and there is an 18th-century fielded two-panel door at the top of the stairs. The attic chambers are ceiled, but the tie-beam and purlins are exposed, along with what appears to be a cruck truss at the center and a light scanning timber frame partition.
