Description

Number 1 Buckingham Road is a house that dates back to the early 17th century and was converted into a single residence in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof.

The west front has two storeys and a two-window range. On the ground floor, there are two late 20th-century three-light casements separated by a 19th-century plank door. The first floor has two three-light early 19th-century metal casements. There are internal gable-end stacks at both the north and south ends. The east front shows signs of low blocked doorways but has no openings. An added outshut to the south has a slate roof and is lit by one late 20th-century two-light casement.

Inside, the main ground-floor rooms were opened up into a single room in the late 20th century, and the south fireplace has been removed. The north fireplace is of the inglenook type and has been partly rebuilt, featuring a timber bressumer with chamfers and tongue stops, along with a chamfered spine beam. To the east of the north fireplace are two early 18th-century plank doors, with the right door having H hinges. There is another early 18th-century plank door to the south, which has strap hinges. A winder staircase is located by the north stack. The first floor has a timber stud partition, with the main bedroom to the north containing an inserted fireplace in a corner. The roof structure consists of principals and collars, and the north return features one two-light 17th-century diamond-mullioned casement, along with additional early 18th-century plank doors.
