Description
Sacksfield Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1833, as indicated by the datestone. It features Flemish garden wall bond brickwork with an ashlar plinth at the front and a slate roof. The building has a symmetrical front that is three windows wide and two storeys high, with three rooms deep. The front door is a four-panel design, set one stone step up, with a flush bottom panel, a fielded centre panel, and two glazed top panels. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight with curved glazing bars and panelled reveals within a timber surround. An open porch, accessed by two concrete steps, has two Doric pillars and matching pilasters on the wall, with a plain cornice featuring mutules above and a felt roof.
On either side of the door are sixteen-pane sash windows, and the first floor has sixteen-pane sashes on each side and a twelve-pane sash in the centre, all with rubbed brick arches. The eaves have a flat, boarded soffit, and the hipped roof has a central well. Chimneys are located at the front eaves on each side and from the ridge, one room in from the rear.
On the right return, the plinth continues a short distance around the corner, with a cambered brick arch over a grille to the cellar and toothing for an intended low wall. A datestone, actually a metal plaque, is present above a canted single-storey bay with a sash window and a flat roof with wide eaves. The base on the right is squared off to shelter the cellar entry, and there is a sixteen-pane sash window to the right, with two sixteen-pane sashes above, matching the eaves and roof of the front.
