Description

Hart’s Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century farmhouse. The front elevation is of Flemish bond brick on a stone plinth, while the sides and rear are of English bond brick. It has a tiled roof. The farmhouse is three bays wide, with two rooms in depth, and has two and a half storeys. A six-panel front door, with plain, unfielded panels, is set within a timber frame and has no lintel above. Flanking the front door are two two-light mullion and transom windows with iron opening lights, each set within a rubbed brick arch. A plain brick string course runs above the windows and stops short of the corners. The first floor has three similar windows, although the left-hand one has been filled in and rendered over. A further plain brick string course is located above the first floor windows, with a short length of wall extending to the eaves; the wallplate is exposed. Gable chimneys are positioned along the ridge. On the right return, the left side has a single-light transomed window, and the right side has a two-light mullion and transom window, both with cambered brick arches. A boarded door leading to the cellar is located on the right side, accessed by stone steps. A string course, similar to that on the front, is present. The first floor windows on this return mirror those below, with a further plain string course located above. Two two-light casement windows are situated in the attic. Inside the front room on the right, a large corner chimney breast abuts the gable. The interior has not been inspected. A garage at the rear is not of architectural interest. The farmhouse forms a group with a nearby barn.
