Description
The Rocklands and attached garage with courtyard wall is a large detached villa located on Lydney Highfield Road, dating from around 1820. The building features painted stucco, deep box eaves, and a flat pitched hipped Welsh slate roof with two brick stacks. It has a compact block design, possibly with a central flat roofed area, and stands two storeys high with a three-windowed façade. All windows are 16-pane sashes, although the first-floor lights are narrower than those on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door, four of which are glazed, set beneath a fanlight and a Roman Doric portico with monolithic column shafts. Access is provided by three steps, two of which have nosings. To the left, there is a painted squared sandstone coursed wall approximately three meters high, topped with flat sandstone coping, which connects to a former stable that has a hipped slate roof and a pair of garage doors. There is also a carefully integrated flat-roofed extension on the right side, featuring 16-pane sashes on the return wall. Inside, the villa retains contemporary shutters and a stick baluster staircase.
