Description
Highbury is a large detached villa dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed with rendered walls, featuring ashlar facing towards the road, and has an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building consists of two parallel ranges with low-pitched gabled roofs arranged to form a compressed "H" plan, with a narrow flat-roofed section connecting the wings. Large eaves stacks are located on each side facing south, and smaller ridge stacks are at the north end.
The south front is two stories high and features a three-window arrangement, with the central bay slightly recessed. The upper floor has 12-pane sashes, while the ground floor has tripartite sashes with a 5+15+5 pane configuration. There is a contemporary pair of three-panel doors under an open pediment supported by brackets in the centre. Long-and-short V-joint quoins are present on both gabled ends. The front elevation to the road has one deeply-set 12-pane sash above a pair of three-panel doors within a moulded frame, all sheltered by a steep-pitched porch on brackets. At ground floor level, two 12-pane sashes and one three-light casement are present.
The rear of the property slopes downwards, revealing a prominent hexagonal bay supported by cast iron columns at basement level, and a small oriel light above.
The interior includes contemporary doors and linings, and a staircase with stick balusters.
