Description
Severn Lodge is a detached villa built in the early 19th century. It features a rendered and ashlared exterior with painted pilaster strips, constructed on sandstone rubble, and has a Welsh slate roof with brick gable stacks. The main front of the building faces away from the road, presenting a parallel range structure with central blocks flanked by gabled wings that are in the same plane. The villa is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:3:1, with 12-pane sash windows, except for the central unit on the ground floor, which has 16 panes. These windows are topped with sandstone flush stepped voussoirs and a slightly dropped keystone. The central entrance features a 6-panel door, part glazed, set within a reeded doorcase that has a small flat canopy supported by consoles. This entrance is accessed by three stone steps with nosings. At the back of the building, there is a central arched sash window replacement for the staircase, along with additional 12 and 16-pane sashes, and a blocked 2-light stone mullion basement window on the lower left. Inside, the villa boasts a good 19th-century stick baluster staircase.
