Description

The Cottage is an 18th-century house, altered in the 19th century. It is located on the north side of the Newent Tewkesbury Road. The house is built of Flemish-bond brickwork with a tiled roof, and is arranged in an L-shape, three windows wide and two storeys high. The front door consists of six panels, with the top two panels glazed using curved glazing bars, and fielded panels below. This is accessed via a lean-to, open timber porch. Each side of the building features canted bays, with sash windows and lean-to tile roofs supported by curved brackets. The first floor has sash windows at each end, within recessed boxes and beneath a stone lintel. A fluted dummy keystone is positioned in the centre of the lintel. Above the front door is a similar window with a semi-circular head. Gable chimneys are situated at each end, built outside the main fabric and incorporating corbelled caps. The roof is hipped at the left corner to accommodate a rear wing. A lean-to wing has been added to fill in an angle.
