Description
The Malthouse is a house built in the late 17th century, located within a row. It is constructed with a well-squared stone plinth and Flemish-bond brickwork, topped by a tiled roof. The front facade is symmetrical and three windows wide, with two storeys and attics. A 6-fielded panel front door is set two stone steps up, featuring a semi-circular fanlight and panelled reveals. Fluted Tuscan pilasters support a patera-decorated frieze and an open pediment with small dentils. Sash windows flank the door, each with a rubbed brick flat arch; the left window has wide glazing bars, while the right has narrower bars. The right-hand window replaces a previous door opening. A brick string course runs along the first-floor level, above which are wide-glazing-bar sash windows with brick-on-edge lintels. Shaped brackets support eaves over a timber moulding. Two gabled dormers are visible, containing timber casement windows. Chimneys are situated on the gables.
