Description

Shirley House is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century, although it may contain earlier work. It was altered in the early 20th century. The exterior features roughcast over a plain plinth, with a brick right return and a tiled roof. The building is L-shaped, two storeys high with attics, and has five windows across its front.

On the left side, there are double boarded doors leading to a carriageway, which have a cambered head. There is a three-light mullion and transom window, dating from the early 20th century, with a flat head. A six-fielded panel door is accessed by one stone step and has a four-pane rectangular fanlight above it. The porch is flat and cantilevered with a moulded edge.

The ground floor also features three-light and two-light windows, and another boarded door with a flat head, which is also accessed by one stone step. On the first floor, there are two two-light windows positioned above the carriageway, and to the right, there are three equally spaced two-light casement windows.

A three-light casement window is located in a gabled dormer on the left side, and another is situated above the main door. The roof has a brick chimney that projects forward of the ridge, with an additional brick chimney located at the rear on the right side. The right return is made of brick and has a timber main post that is set back partway. The interior has not been inspected.
