Description

Linwood Cottage and Noent House are attached houses that likely date from the early 17th century. They feature timber-framing with brick nogging on a random rubble stone plinth, and the brickwork is in English bond. The roof is tiled. The main block is two windows wide and has one and a half storeys, with a cross-wing that is two and a half storeys tall.

The ground floor framing consists of two panels high, with an additional panel above the main block. On the left side, there is a canted oriel with a flat roof and a five-pane wide sash window. Access is provided by a door located off a quarter landing, which is reached by four stone steps at right angles to the facade. This door is half-glazed and features a late 20th-century lean-to porch supported by brackets. To the right, there is another five-pane wide sash window with a cambered brick arch, set in a short section of brick wall that has been painted to resemble timber-framing. There is also a late 20th-century door off a quarter landing, accessed by five stone steps with a simple iron balustrade.

The canted oriel on the right has six-pane wide sashes. On the first floor, there are two gabled dormers with two-light casements on the left, and a jettied gable on the right, which has curved braces supporting the main posts below. The framing on this level is one panel high, with straight braces connecting the wall post to the tie beam. A timber window with narrow end lights is located in the center. Above this, there are queen struts, with a window in between and collar and V struts above.

The left return of the ground floor is covered by a brick wall with stone coping, while the area above is timber-framed. There is a small square chimney that is external to the framing at the front, and a larger chimney at the rear.
