Description
Thorncroft House is an early 19th-century house that has undergone alterations. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, now painted cream, and features a slate roof. The building has a rectangular single-depth plan with a lean-to and a wing added to the rear. It stands two storeys high and has five bays, with the three-bay centre slightly projecting forward.
The ground floor is distinguished by an impost band and a first-floor sill band at the centre. The wide segmental-headed doorway is protected by a light wooden porch that has keyed semi-elliptical arches and a flat roof. The doorway contains a panelled door with glazed top panels and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The ground floor windows are round-headed sashed windows with radiating glazing bars, except for the right-hand end window, which is a casement. These windows are set in recessed round-headed arches linked by an impost band. The first floor features a square panel in the centre, likely intended for a plaque, and cross-window casements that appear to have been altered. The house has dentilled eaves and a hipped roof with a shallow pitch, featuring a chimney at the front that is offset to the right of centre, likely added later, along with end-wall chimneys.
There is a high wall from a former walled garden attached at the right-hand corner of the property. The rear of the house is not of special interest. Inside, the doors are framed with reeded architraves.
