Description
Battleborough Stable Lodge is a late 18th-century coach-house that has been remodeled and enlarged, now serving as two dwellings. It features white-painted brick with some flint and a slate roof. The building has a long rectangular plan with a short addition at the west end. It stands two storeys tall and originally had a symmetrical design with nine bays plus one. The central three-bay section, which slightly protrudes, has some patched brickwork indicating that there were once two basket-arched wagon entrances. Currently, it has three segmental-headed windows on each floor, with remnants of three lunettes above the first-floor windows. The central section also includes a fluted frieze with rosette roundels and a simple pediment that contains a blocked or blind oeil-de-boeuf. The outer sections have segmental-headed casements on both floors and doorways inserted next to the central section. The one-bay addition at the west end matches the style but is not of special interest. The rear wall features flint at the ground floor and brick above, with altered window arrangements and a central oeil-de-boeuf. The interior has been altered as well.
