Description
The White House is a house and shop, now used as an office. It dates from the earlier 18th century, with an early 19th-century addition, and has been altered over time. The building features white-painted weatherboard and a red tile roof. It has a linear plan in two parts aligned on a north-south axis, with various rear extensions, situated on a small triangular island site. The earlier section is rectangular with a continuous rear outshut, while the later addition, which serves as a dwelling, is trapezoidal and double-depth.
The structure is two storeys high, with one window on the first floor of the earlier section and two in the later addition. The added dwelling has a plain doorway beneath a cornice supported by consoles, with one sashed window featuring margin panes on each floor to the right, and a chimney located at the junction of the roofs. The gable wall, which is angled back, has similar window arrangements. The main range has four 12-pane sash windows on the ground floor and two small 2-light casements above, topped by a steeply-pitched roof with a half-hip. The north gable wall features a former shop window with tripartite 8-pane sashes beneath a blank fascia, set within a large square moulded surround that includes reeded pilasters and a prominent moulded cornice on consoles, along with a small casement under the hip. The interior has not been inspected. The building was formerly known as "Jenden's Corner," a grocer's shop.
