Description
Matthews Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard at the north-west corner of the vestry block of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates Matthews, who died in 1832. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat lid that is badly eroded, with a moulded edge. The corners have quarter-rectangular fluted and gadrooned balusters. The ends of the tomb have slightly sunk rectangular panels, while the sides also have a moulded edge and slightly sunk rectangular panels with scalloped corners and corner paterae. The plinth has a moulded top, and the lettering on the monument is well-preserved.
