Description

This is a late 17th-century house located on the south side of Church Street, Newent. The building is timber-framed with white-rendered panels and a roughcast gable wall on the right side. It has a tiled roof. The house has a roughly ā€˜L’ shaped plan and is three windows wide, extending over two and a half storeys.

The front facade is relatively plain, with a rendered plinth extending up to window sill level. A square-headed opening at a low level on the left provides access to a cellar. The timber framing is arranged with two panels per floor, and there is no jetty. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a three-pane fanlight, all contained within a moulded surround and flat hood supported by shaped brackets. Either side of the door are tripartite sash windows. A flat lintel marks the location of a blocked doorway on the right-hand side. The first floor features two similar windows, with a longer blank wall to the right, including a small, blocked window. The attic wall has been raised to create two triangular dormers, each featuring V-shaped struts above the collar and containing a two-light casement window with iron opening lights and leaded lights. A gable chimney sits on the right ridge, and another is located just above the eaves on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
