Former Inn, now Public House; early and late C17, later minor alterations. Brick-nogged timber frame on stone plinth left, painted Flemish-bond brickwork right; tiled roof. Four-window, 2- storey block on right, gable 2½ storey cross wing left. Main facade left return from street, facing open space. On left gable of long wing: 2 panel high framing ground floor, 3 first. Four- pane casement window left of centre ground floor, framing replaced by brickwork to its right. First floor straight braces from corner posts to bressumer below: 4-pane casement left of centre, in half of former central window. Small 4-pane window in gable, 2 collars, curved V struts in apex. Left return timber-framed. To right main block, brick plinth, rusticated quoins. On left double, 3-panel doors, 2-light fanlight with diamond-pattern glazing bars: flattish plain shell hood over, on shaped brackets. To right 3-light mullion and transom window, cambered head, replacing 3 open or blind openings with flat, rubbed brick arches, which survive. Beyond similar door and hood: blind opening with rubbed brick arch: 4-Light mullion and transom window, flat head. Leaded lights, as to all windows in brick block. First floor plain, brick string course, cut by hoods to doorways, stops short of corners. On left single-light transomed window, to right 3 two-light mullion and transom windows, with 1 or 2 blind openings between, all with rubbed brick arches. Modillion eaves cornice, hipped roof, lead hips. Large, star-plan brick chimney on left, with return roof to cross wing. Right return plinth and string as main front. Two 2- light mullion and transom windows per floor, rubbed brick arches. Brick chimney on right just behind eaves. Internally, ceiling in front room of timber-framed wing divided into 6 by beams, double-ovolo on main, single on cross. Corner fireplace in right-hand ground-floor room by road, bayleaf pulvinated frieze and eared surround.
