Description

Nos 45 and 47 on Church Street are a pair of semi-detached houses that date back to the 17th century or earlier, although they were refaced in the mid-19th century. The houses feature Flemish bond brickwork, stone lintels, and a tiled roof. The front has three windows, with doors situated between the outer pairs of windows. The houses are two rooms deep and consist of two storeys.

At the base, there is a plain brick plinth. On the left side, there is a canted oriel window with a sash, supported by a bracket underneath and featuring a flat head with a moulded edge. Next to it, there is a six-panel front door that is accessed by two stone steps, with the panels flush and stepped stone voussoirs leading to a flat head. Beyond this door is another sash window with a similar head. To the right, there is another front door, which is a late 20th-century half-glazed design, followed by another sash window like the one on the left.

The first floor has a plain stone string course and three sash windows, with the upper sash of each being a single pane high, and their lintels matching those below. The right-hand window has been altered in the late 20th century to feature two equal sashes. The eaves are flat and boarded, supported on paired brackets. A brick chimney is located on the ridge in the centre of the roof. Inside, there is a timber-framed cross wall by the left door, with a post for the front wall set back on the right, indicating that the house originally had a jetty. The floor beam above on the left has a heavy chamfer with a bar stop.
