Description
Ellwood Lodge is a house built in several stages, with the earliest part dating from the late 16th century, mostly from the 17th century, and some additions from the 19th century. It features painted rubblestone walls and a slate roof, with two stone stacks and one brick stack. The building has an 'L' shape, with a projecting gable at the front, a single-storey room with a stone tile roof to the left, and a single-storey gabled extension at the rear. It has two storeys and an attic, and the projecting gable includes a cellar made of very thin coursed rubblestone. There are four windows, including one in the gable on the left, which have wood mullions and transoms. A small gabled dormer is present, along with a boarded door that has a small window in the angle of the 'L'. The ground floor of the gable end features a 19th-century bay window. The room to the left has glazing bar sashes with draw-up shutters and a hipped roof with a king post. Inside, there are some remaining large beams, and the attic has three bays with collar and tie beam trusses.
