Description
The former Engine House at the Flour Mills Colliery, now disused, dates from around the 1830s. It is constructed of rubblestone with brick dressings and features long and short punched quoin blocks. The building has a slate roof with raised gabled ridge ventilation. It is a large rectangular structure with seven round-headed tall windows that retain their original glazing bars, including radial bars. There are two windows on the end walls, with a circular brick-edged opening in the gable above. A brick frieze made up of three courses runs below the eaves level. An additional canopy from the 20th century is located on the west side. This Engine House, along with the remaining range of colliery buildings, represents the most complete surviving range in the Forest of Dean.
