Description

No. 2 (left) and No. 3 (right) Batsford Estate are a pair of semi-detached estate cottages built in the late 19th century. They were designed by Sir Ernest George and Peto for Lord Redesdale. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a limestone slate roof that features limestone gable coping.

The buildings have a rectangular plan with twin gables that project slightly from the facade, positioned off centre to the right and left. Each cottage has a porch; No. 2 has its porch attached to the left of the principal gable, while No. 3 has its porch on the right. There are three windows across the front, with a dormer window situated between the principal gables. The windows are stone-mullioned, featuring two and three-light configurations with stopped hoods, and late 19th to early 20th century metal casements. The roof is adorned with saddleback gable coping, moulded kneelers, and an eaves cornice, while the porches have single pitch roofs. Each cottage has three pairs of twin shaft axial chimneys.

The interior has not been inspected. These cottages are part of a group of similar buildings located prominently opposite the Church of St. Mary.
