Description

BATSFORD BATSFORD VILLAGE SP 13 SE 4/5 No. 2 (left) and 3 (right) Batsford Estate GV II Pair of semi-detached estate cottages. Late C19. By Sir Ernest George and Peto for Lord Redesdale. Coursed squared and dressed limestone; limestone slate roof with limestone gable coping. Ashlar and cement rendered brick stacks. Rectangular plan with twin gables projecting forwards slightly from facade off centre right and left. Porch attached to left of principal gable of No. 2 and right of principal gable of No. 3. 3 windows to whole. Dormer window between principal gables. 2 and 3-light stone- mullioned windows with stopped hoods. Late C19, early C20 metal casements. Roof with saddleback gable coping, moulded kneelers and eaves cornice. Single pitch porch roofs. 3 pairs twin shaft axial chimneys. Interior not inspected. One of a group of several similar cottages occupying a prominent position opposite Church of St. Mary (q.v.).
