Description

Selwyn House is an estate house located in Batsford Village, built in the late 19th century by Sir Ernest George and Peto for Lord Redesdale. The building features ashlar stonework with a concrete tile roof and limestone gable coping, along with ashlar and artificial stone chimneys. It has a rectangular main body with a projecting central porch and two extensions on the left gable end. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical façade with three windows on the main body, including a central gabled two-storey porch. The far-right window is now blocked. Most windows are 2-light stone-mullioned casements with glazing bars, while the first-floor porch window is a 3-light fixed casement. The entrance features a stilted arch with a stopped hood above, leading to a part-glazed plank door with a fanlight. The left extensions each have one window, with a 2-light wood casement above a single plank door on the far left. The remaining windows are 2-light stone-mullioned casements. The building has flat coping and features two gable end stacks and one axial stack. The interior has not been inspected. Selwyn House is part of a group of similar buildings situated prominently next to the Church of St. Mary.
