Description
No. 1, Batsford Estate is an estate cottage built in the late 19th century by Sir Ernest George and Peto for Lord Redesdale. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with a concrete tile roof and limestone gable coping, featuring artificial stone stacks. It has a rectangular main body that extends forward on the right side, where a porch is set diagonally in the angle. The cottage is two storeys high with irregular fenestration. Notable features include a 4-light stone-mullioned oriel window on the first floor of the gable front and a 4-light stone-mullioned casement window with a stopped hood below. The gabled porch has a flat chamfered 4-centred arched entrance with a plank door inside. The roof is adorned with saddleback gable coping, and the porch has roll moulded coping. Moulded kneelers are present, and there is a four-flue chimney in the shape of an 'X' on the far right. The interior has not been inspected.
