Description
Nos. 69 and 70 Church Street are a pair of semi-detached estate cottages built around 1860 for the Longleat Estate. They are constructed from coursed rubble stone with brick dressings and feature a tiled roof. The cottages have an 'L'-shaped plan and are two stories high with three windows.
No. 69 has a planked door located in a gabled porch with a coped verge, and to the right, there is a 3-light mullioned casement with a hoodmould. To the left, there is a canted bay with mullioned casements and a fishscale tiled roof. No. 70 features a planked door in a moulded case with a hoodmould, and to the left, there is a 3-light mullioned casement with a hoodmould.
On the first floor, both cottages have three 2-light mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, along with two gables that have blind loopholes, cusped bargeboards, and pendant pinnacles. The left return of the wing includes a planked door and two 3-light casements. The rear of the main range has an integral lean-to with 3-light casements, as well as 2-light and 1-light casements on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
