Description

The barn at Villars Farm is a large structure, likely built in the early 17th century, although it is locally believed to date back to 1269. It is constructed from random coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof with coped gables and quoins. The barn is divided into two sections: the southeast section consists of three bays, separated by a partition wall from the six bays to the northwest, supported by collar and tie beam trusses.

On the southwest face, there are two flush cart entries with large timber lintels and quoins. The entry on the right has a similar entry opposite it, which is partly walled up in the center of a small three-bay section. The left entry is located in the fourth bay of the six-bay section. The northeast face features a cart entry in a projecting two-storey gabled section, which has double doors that are no longer in use, a large timber lintel, and a small pitch hole at the top of the gable. The northwest end has a catslide lean-to on both faces; the northeast face includes a three-bay animal shelter supported by two tapering stone Tuscan columns on bases. Small square vents are present throughout the barn.
