7/235 Meysey Hampt Barn at Villers Farm (formerly listed with Villars Farmhouse)

GV II

Large barn. Probably early C17, but reputed locally to date back to 1269. Random coursed rubble stone, stone slate roof with coped gables and quoins. In 2 sections of 3 bays to south east divided by partition wall from 6 bays to north west, collar and tie beam trusses. South west face has 2 flush cart entries with large timber lintels and quoins, that to right with opposed similar entry partly walled up in centre of small 3-bay section, that to left with opposed entry in bay 4 of 6-bay section. On north east face, cart entry in projecting 2-storey gabled section with double doors no longer used, large timber lintel and small pitch hole at top of gable. North west end has catslide lean-to on both faces, on north east face this is a 3-bay animal shelter with 2 tapering stone Tuscan columns on bases. Small square vents throughout.
