Description
15 Church Street is a former wing of the Old Rectory, which has been converted into a separate semi-detached house. It dates from the mid to late 19th century, possibly around 1872, and was likely designed by James Brooks, coinciding with the restoration of the nearby Church of St Mary the Virgin. The building is constructed from coursed and dressed rubble stone, featuring flush quoins and a stone slate roof. It has several large stepped ashlar stacks with polygonal flues, some of which are grouped with offsets and decorative arch motifs at the ends.
The structure is a squarish range of two storeys and an attic, with its main facade facing south, reflecting the restored style of the adjacent Old Rectory. The prominent gable has a single stone-framed light, while the first floor includes a short four-light and a two-light stone mullion window with transoms, both topped with square hoodmoulds. The ground floor features two similar four-light windows. The main entrance is located on the roadside, to the right of a corbelled out rear corner, with an additional entrance in a projecting section at the rear.
